Dr. Omar David Arencibia, widely known as Obà Oriaté David Alá Aggayú, is a prominent figure in Afro-Caribbean religious traditions, including Lukumí Santería and Palo Mayombe. A spiritual leader, educator, scholar, and artist, he has dedicated his life to promoting the cultural and religious heritage of the Yoruba-Lukumí community, significantly impacting Latin America and the United States.

Born in Cuba on September 2, 1986, David embarked on his spiritual journey at 23, initiated by his godmother Teresa González into the priesthood of Aggayú. In 2016, he founded Mexico's first Yoruba Cabildo, serving as its president, and the Yoruba Lukumí Cultural Association in Houston, Texas. Both organizations have become pillars in preserving African spiritual and cultural traditions.

Career

With over 40 published books and 500,000+ copies sold worldwide, David is a prolific author blending practical expertise with academic rigor. He holds a Master’s degree in African Studies from Ohio State University, an honorary doctorate in History and Anthropology, and the prestigious title "Doctor of Doctors Honoris Causa." Furthering his intellectual pursuits, he earned certifications from Harvard University in Religion, Conflict, and Peace, and Religious Literacy.

As an educator, David teaches across six religious schools with over 800 students spanning 30+ countries. His teaching encompasses Espiritismo, Palo Mayombe, Caracol-Dilogún, and Yoruba-Lukumí folklore. He has been recognized for his educational impact by the University of California and international human rights organizations.

With over a million social media followers and 200,000+ YouTube subscribers, David shares his knowledge globally. His commitment extends beyond rituals to cultural preservation as a Yoruba-Lukumí folkloric singer (Akpón).

Achievements and Recognition

David's contributions have earned him international acclaim. He is a member of Mensa and Grand Master Mason of the Respected Grand Lodge of Mexico. As a religious affairs commissioner for human rights, he has received numerous accolades, including Mexico's Phoenix Coin for Peace and honors from the Secretariat of Public Education.
